Smart Way Amtrak schedule changes affect weekday morning departures only. Amtrak arrivals into Roanoke are not affected. Riders will continue to arrive in Roanoke by train and be transported by Smart Way to Virginia Tech Maroon Loop #1.
Valley Metro is actively sharing this information with customers, operators, and staff. Please plan accordingly and allow extra time for travel during this transition.
Amtrak Service Changes
- On weekdays, the 6:20am Amtrak train will no longer serve Roanoke, VA.
- Weekend Amtrak service remains unchanged.
Smart Way Amtrak Connector Changes
Smart Way-Amtrak Connector service between the Virginia Tech Maroon Loop #1 and the Amtrak Platform in Downtown Roanoke will be adjusted to align with the new Amtrak schedule.
February 16 – March 15
- On weekdays, the Smart Way bus departs Maroon Loop at 7:00am.
- Arrives at the Downtown Roanoke Amtrak Platform is 8:20am.
- Connects with Amtrak Train 156 departing at 8:38am.
Beginning March 16 (through completion of the Long Bridge Project)
- On weekdays, the 5:00 AM Smart Way Amtrak Connector will no longer serve the Maroon Loop.
- The Smart Way bus will depart Maroon Loop #1 at 7:45am.
- Arrival at the Downtown Roanoke Amtrak Platform is 9:18am.
- Connects with the 9:55 AM Amtrak departure.
Afternoon Amtrak Departure
- There will be no change to the afternoon Amtrak train departing Roanoke at 4:23pm.
