Valley Metro Celebrates 50 Years of Service to the Roanoke Valley
Valley Metro is marking 50 years of service to the Roanoke Valley. Since 1975, Valley Metro has provided safe, reliable, and affordable public transportation, helping generations of residents get where they need to go.
To celebrate this occasion, the community is invited to join us for a 50th Anniversary Celebration at Third Street Station on Tuesday, November 18, 2025, at 10:30 a.m.
The event will feature remarks from Roanoke Mayor Joe Cobb and Kevin Price, General Manager of Valley Metro, reflecting on five decades of connecting the Roanoke Valley and the people who make it possible. Valley Metro will also recognize longtime employees and community partners whose dedication has shaped the agency into a cornerstone of regional mobility. Guests can enjoy the celebration, meet the Valley Metro team, and take home exclusive 50th Anniversary commemorative merchandise.
As Valley Metro celebrates its legacy, it’s also looking ahead. The agency continues to invest in cleaner vehicles, smarter technology, and greater accessibility to improve the rider experience.
“As we celebrate 50 years, we’re also looking ahead,” said Kevin Price, General Manager of Valley Metro. “We’re investing in cleaner vehicles, smarter technology, and more convenient routes. Our goal is to make transit not just an option, but a choice people are excited to make.”
Since its founding in 1975, Valley Metro has served as the Roanoke Valley’s trusted public transportation provider - connecting residents to jobs, education, healthcare, and opportunity. As the system moves into its next 50 years, it remains committed to innovation, sustainability, and serving the community that drives it forward.
